Club not conserved
Making a change from closed and boarded pubs, here’s a photo taken this morning of the Heaton Norris Conservative Club in Heaton Norris, Stockport, an area that has also seen more than its fair share of pub closures. Note the entrance to the “Casino Lounge” on the right. While this may not seem promising territory for a Conservative Club, in fact Lancashire had a strong tradition of working-class Toryism, and there were plenty in similar areas.

Club land is dying faster than the pubs and as for a Tory heritage, these clubs long ceased to have any relationship to the political party they are named from.
