The people’s Parliament

Interesting video here made by Nigel Farage of UKIP for Channel 4 stressing the importance of saving the British pub:

I’m well aware that Nigel Farage probably wouldn’t play too well in Collyhurst, but, given their obvious hatred of pubs and all they stand for, you can’t imagine any NuLabour apparatchik doing such a thing in a month of Sundays. Good to see he doesn’t shy away from mentioning the elephant in the room either.

  1. There is a lot of talk about saving pubs. Blaming successful supermarkets is absurd. Pubcos and Punch Taverns charge too much for rents. This is the main reason that pubs fail.

  2. It's nice to see someone tackling the pubs issue head-on instead of skirting round the edges, afraid of offending Labour dogma.

  3. Phil,

I agree the pub company business model doesn't help, but it has only been exposed because of an underlying fall in the amount of pubgoing. It's an exacerbating factor, it's not the root cause.

  4. Remember always that the aim is to destroy all traces of a community which is independent of official control. Pubs are likely places for free thinking and so they have to be eliminated. In this regard good progress is being made.
